Rose Colored is a song about contentment and the paths we take to reach it. It is probably the most autobiographical song on the record that closely follows our path and journey in making this record.

Today we release ‘Brand New (Renewed)’ - a collaboration with the artist SYML. (link in bio)⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Foreign Fields has always been a rather insular project between Eric and I as we've managed to keep almost the entire creative process to just the two of us. Back in February we decided that we really wanted to open up Foreign Fields to some collaborators, even more so than a traditional remix, and allow for the songs to speak in a different way. We jumped at the chance to work with SYML on this. He really understood the lyrical content on this one and allowed the message to reverberate in a larger way. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ All that being said, it's a pretty strange setting to release a piece of music. This time is not and should not be about us. We've decided that we're going to donate 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this project on Bandcamp to freedom-inc.org - an organization close to us both here in Wisconsin. Tarri is an all around incredible human and artist. An author, painter and good friend of my wife, Janelle. Once we had Milam's words, we started to think about the perfect voice to deliver those words onto our record. After mulling over a few options between the two of us the idea to approach Tarri seemed to come out of the blue. There was this soft, lyrical quality to her speaking that suddenly struck me as perfect alongside Milam's words and the music of Brand New. We were honored to have her be a part of this album and are forever thankful for the gentle life she brought to Brand New.
Andrew Milam has been an unending force for good in my life. First known to me (Eric) as my favorite and most inspirational teacher in high school, then, as a life long friend. This is our second time collaborating with Milam. He played a big role in our sole performance of Take Cover, performing his works of poetry sintered by each song on the album. It was an honor and a privilege to once again have his work alongside ours with his poem for Brand New. He has an intimate knowledge of our story as he has quite literally seen us grow up and his words always seem to capture the direct essence of what we are saying, at times better than we can say it ourselves.
Nick - friend, father, husband, musician, painter, old soul, oak tree. Nick has been a friend and brother for many years and we have experienced much together. I can't exactly remember how the idea came about to record at the cabin he had built together with his dad, Frank, but we will forever be indebted to him and his family for opening up their space for us to create this record. We had the pleasure of having Nick down at the cabin with us for a day during our time there. He laid down some beautiful clarinet, accordion, violin and guitar and then sat at the fire with us as the light faded in the evening sky. Quite simply, this record might not even exist without our good friend, Nick. . Nick writes and records music under the moniker, Saint Tall. Frank and Nola. These two are the parents of our dear friend Nick Morawiecki (more to come on him later). The owners of the cabin that we wrote and recorded our album. We saw Frank daily on our trips into town to call our families back home (no wifi or cell signal at the cabin). And then we’d see both of them again sometime in the afternoon right when the sun would start to fade over the hill at the land. Picking carrots, making sure we had dry wood for the stove, coming in for a Miller Lite, and a chat about Nick as a kid. And when Eric and I were due for a little socializing, they took us out for a Friday Night Fish Fry (if you’re from Wisconsin, you know). Nola owns a flower shop in town, Frank does Tai Chi a few blocks away. When it’s lunchtime, Frank brings Nola a salad. It’s the life they live and we’re forever grateful they showed us how to do it for two weeks.
This monster with sticks, Nate Babbs, has been around since the beginning. He went to school with Eric, and he was our first choice when we started touring. Never questioned it and he's been with us since. Sorry we don't tour more, Nate. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Thank you for all you've done and added to our sound throughout the years!
